Differences Between Virtual and Concrete Manipulatives Essay

Contrasts Between Virtual and Concrete Manipulatives - Essay Example 117). Physical or true highlights don't characterize a solid involvement with a numerical setting; it is by how critical the association is to the scientific thoughts and circumstances. For instance, an understudy may make the importance of the idea four by building a portrayal of the number and associating it with either genuine or envisioned squares. Virtual manipulatives, additionally called PC manipulatives, seem to offer intuitive conditions where understudies can control PC items to make and take care of issues. Moreover, maybe in light of the fact that they are accepting moment criticism about their activities, understudies at that point structure associations between numerical ideas and tasks. Notwithstanding, in the case of utilizing physical or virtual manipulatives, it is important to interface the utilization of a particular manipulative to the scientific ideas or techniques that are being considered (p. 119). A few specialists have seen that a portion of the limitations intrinsic to physical manipulatives don't tie virtual manipulatives. Utilization of models as well as manipulatives gives appraisal of numerical learning a durable association with scientific guidance (Kelly, 2006). Kelly’s study inspects the connection between scientific appraisal and the utilization of manipulatives. ... The utilization of such appraisals in mix with the utilization of manipulatives should manufacture solid understudy interest in the instructing learning process while creating further numerical learning. Physical Manipulatives Relative to the instructing and learning of science, physical, or concrete, manipulatives are three-dimensional items used to assist understudies with spanning their comprehension of the solid condition with the emblematic portrayals of arithmetic (Clements, 1999; Hynes, 1986; Moyer, 2001; Terry, 1996). There has been verifiable documentation of the utilization of manipulatives, for example, the math device, tallying sticks, and obviously fingers, before the Roman Empire (Fuys and Tischler, 1979). Instances of educator made manipulatives incorporate those that utilization materials, for example, beans, catches, popsicle-sticks, and straws (Fuys and Tischler). Today’s instructors approach a wide assortment of industrially accessible manipulatives intended to help in the educating of most rudimentary numerical ideas. Models incorporate Algebra tiles, trait squares, Base-10 materials, shading tiles, Cuisenaire poles, division strips, geoboards, geometric solids, design squares and Unifix 3D squares. The presence of monetarily made manipulatives in the United States expanded during the 1960s after crafted by Zolten Dienes and Jerome Bruner was distributed (Thompson and Lambdin, 1994). Understanding the Dynamics of Texting in Relationships

But, in this day and age a more accurate statement might be, a watched smartphone never pings. Seriously, there is nothing more anxiety-provoking than being left on read when you text someoneâ€"unless maybe it is seeing the text bubble that someone is typing and then never actually get a response. In fact, countless studies have shown that texting can create a great deal of anxiety. Research also suggests that texting has the power to both help and hinder your relationships. Whether you use texting to keep in touch or you use it to avoid difficult situations, texting is both a good thing and a bad thing. In other words, texting has the power to bring people closer together or to create distance depending on the underlying motivations of the people doing the texting. When it comes to relationships, researchers have discovered that its not how often people text one another that matters, but how text compatible they are. Scientists also have discovered that aside from being a functional way to communicate, texting also allows people to escape their present situation. People text because they are bored or because they feel it is a better way to express themselves than talking on the phone or in person. But, there is a risk that texting could become a crutch too. And, when this happens it becomes a barrier to creating meaningful relationships with other people. Additionally, texting all the time can come from a place of loneliness, which only exacerbates the issue by further alienating and isolating the texter. How Texting Impacts Relationships As mentioned previously, texting in relationships have the power to be a good thing. But, issues crop up when it becomes your main mode of communication. Too many times there is a lot of miscommunication and misperception that takes place as a result. When this happens, it can alter the entire course of the relationship. Here are some ways in which texting impacts relationships. Texting Nice Things Improves the Relationship It stands to reason that texting a compliment, a funny meme, or a positive comment, will make the person on the other end feel closer to you and more satisfied with the relationship. Consequently, be sure you are regularly sending encouraging notes to your partner and not just texts to pick up milk or texts asking where you are having dinner or what movie you are seeing. Excessive Texting Indicates an Underlying Issue Anytime one partner texts the other excessively, this is a warning sign. For instance, texting non-stop could indicate that the partner is clingy and needy and feeling insecure in the relationship. While this is usually only harmful to the person doing the excessive texting, it can be smothering to the person on the receiving end. Additionally, you want to link yourself with someone who is secure in who they are and does not need you to give them worth or meaning. Other times, excessive texting is an early warning sign of digital dating abuse. Excessive texting, especially when it involves demanding to know where someone is, who they are with, and what they are doing, is controlling and abusive. If you are in a relationship with someone who texts excessively or aggressively, you may want to distance yourself from them. How to Recognize Digital Dating Abuse in Your Relationship Hyperactive Sexting Can Signal Trouble While you might think that sending sexy messages, nude photos, or sexts in a relationship helps spice it up and keep things interesting, research has shown that relationships involving excessive sexting usually experience more conflict. The partners also were more likely to be ambivalent about the relationships long-term potential and report lower levels of commitment and attachment. A sexy picture or note every now and then is totally fine if it is consensually sent and received, but avoid sending these types of messages in excess. In-person intimacy is always a better option. Common Texting Mistakes People are constantly sizing up one anothers behavior, and texting is a primary way in which you can begin making evaluations about the relationship early on. And when you just start seeing someone, their texting habits can be both intriguing and baffling at the same time. Here are some common mistakes people make when texting in relationships. Using Texting as a Way to Deal With Conflict If there is a problem in the relationship, you should never try to resolve it all through text messaging. Texting is not a conflict resolution tool. Instead, arrange a time to talk to one another in person. By doing so, you will have a much more meaningful conversation because you will be able to see each others expressions and hear each others tone of voice. These things are vital parts of healthy communication. When you are using text messages to communicate about sensitive issues, there are too many risks that things will be misinterpreted. Asking Too Many Questions One or two questions shows that you have interest in a person. But asking too many questions can start to feel like an interrogation. And when this happens, the person the receiving end can start to feel defensive. Try to limit your questions to just one or two. There will be plenty of time to ask questions in person as the relationship progresses. Sending Long Conversations Through Text Generally speaking, your texts should not be too long. Ideally, you want to keep their length to about that of a tweet. Sending long texts can be annoying to the people on the receiving end, especially if they are busy at work or trying to complete a project. That being said, there are circumstances in which more in-depth conversations can be had over text, just make sure you arent relying on text messaging as your primary form of communication. Arguing by Text or Texting When Youre Angry Dont text when youre angry should go without saying. Yet many people still make this mistake. If you are angry or you just had a disagreement, put your phone down. Not only will you probably regret what you type, but there is also no way your text is going to be interpreted the way you want it to be. So, take some time to cool off and then speak to one another in person to resolve the issue. Waking the Other Person Up When it comes to texting friends and partners, its important to be respectful of their schedules. You should do your best to refrain from sending text messages super early in the morning or late at night. While many people keep their phones on silent while they sleep, its more considerate to wait until regular hours to send someone a text. How to Know if You Are Text Compatible Researchers have discovered that it isnt specifically what you text or how you text your partner that creates satisfaction in the relationship. It is your texting compatibility that actually predicts relationship satisfaction. In other words, when both partners approach texting in the same way in the relationship, they make for a happier couple. Not surprisingly, text messages from someone who texts in the same ways you do and who likes to catch up at the same rate and pace you do will be welcomed in your inbox. But if you are partnered with someone who texts too much, or even too little, you will eventually become annoyed. Here are three telltale signs that you and your partner are text compatible. You Text Each Other the Same Amount It doesnt matter whether you type long paragraphs to one another or you type a few short sentences, as long as they are roughly the same, you are compatible. Meanwhile, there is nothing worse than pouring your heart out in text and only getting a one or two-word reply in response. Likewise, if you prefer short text messages, receiving a long text can be annoying. You Initiate Text Conversations Equally In the beginning stages of a relationship, couples are hyper-aware of who initiates each text. So, as the relationship progresses, if one person initiates all of the contact it signals that there is some texting incompatibility present. Ideally, both partners are initiating contact with equal frequency. Its when they are unbalanced that there is a problem. You Text Each Other Just to Chat This type of texting is the equivalent of small talk. You text each other just to say hello or to check-in and see what the other person is up to. Or maybe you text one another funny memes or links to interesting articles. When this type of texting occurs in a relationship, it is actually a positive sign and a good indicator of overall relationship satisfaction. A Word From Verywell If you are frequently disappointed in the way in which your partner responds to you via text, then you may want to take some time to talk about it. Although discussing your concerns wont necessarily bring about changes, you will at least gain a better understanding of where your partner is coming from as well. This way, the next time you get a text that irritates you in some way, you will understand the motivation behind it and not take it too personally. The Stress of Constantly Checking Your Phone

What is DNA an Example by

What is DNA This is an acronym which in full refers to Deoxyribonucleic acid. This is a nucleic acid that is made up of genes which are responsible for the growth and development of all living organisms. It is a hereditary material in all living organisms with the highest concentration being found in the nucleus of a cell. This discussion seeks to find out what DNA is all about and its various functions in the body. DNA consists of four chemical bases namely thymine, guanine, cytosine and adenine. These four chemical bases pair to form what is known as base pairs. In addition each an every one of these bases has a molecule of phosphate and sugar attached to it. A base that has these two attachments is referred to as a nucleotide (Easteal, S. 30-33). Need essay sample on "What is DNA" topic? We will write a custom essay sample specifically for you Proceed To be able to clearly understand how DNA works it is important to look at some of the properties of DNA. DNA has both physical and chemical properties which influence the manner in which it functions. One of the properties is replication. This means that DNA has the ability to make several copies of itself. This property plays an important role in cell division as the newly formed cell must be exactly like the old one. As already mentioned DNA exist in pairs as opposed to single molecules. A pair of DNA takes the shape of a helix whose stability is maintained by bonds of hydrogen. Basic pairing is yet another property of DNA. This refers to the pairing a pattern of the DNA. One peculiar thing to note is that the bases are specific in pairing so that they can only pair with certain bases and not others. Cytosine for example only pairs with guanine base and not any other. Adenine on the other hand can only pair with thymine. This is referred to as complementary base pairing (Transnational College, 98-102). Despite being simple a concept complementary base pairing is important in understanding how DNA functions. The two grooves in the DNA also form part of the properties. These grooves are classified as major and minor groves. These grooves help in the selective passage of only those proteins that are important and it is these proteins that get into contact with the bases. It is extremely important for proteins to get into contact with the bases as some of the proteins known as transcriptional factors play a key role in prevention of deformities. It is these proteins that determine the size of ones cells and also suppress any emerging tumuor. These proteins also play a contributory role in the general growth and development of organisms. It is also these proteins that enhance communication in human beings. It is due to these grooves that cellular processes take place effectively with the body of a living organism (Transnational College, 89-92). The strands of DNA are quite long yet they are able to fit well in our cells which in comparison are small. DNA is approximated to be 1.8 metres by length yet it is able to fit in our small body cells. This is because of the super coiling property of DNA. This simply means that the DNA is able to coil itself so that it efficiently uses the small space available in the body cells. The different confirmations in which DNA exists are important in ensuring that the DNA is maintained and repaired incase it is broken. The DNA also has a strand that is an antisense and helps in making of proteins. Did you know that our characteristics as human beings are by and large influenced by the DNA in our body cells? The colour of your eyes for instance is influenced by the DNA in your body DNA is responsible in ensuring that body cells grow and function in harmony to form an effective body of a living organism. DNA as already mentioned is hereditary. This means that it is passed from one generation to another through family lines. With the help of technology it is now possible to modify the structure of a DNA and also to transfer DNA from one organism to another (Kobilinsky, 72-74). One of the frequently asked questions as far as DNA is concerned is where DNA is found in the body of living organism. The body is made of millions of cells approximately every 10 billions cells. Inside every cell is a nucleus that contains 46 chromosomes and in turn every chromosome contains a DNA. Thus DNA I contained in the chromosomes that are found in the nucleus of a cell. DNA is also responsible for the synthesis of Ribonucleic acid (RNA) which is also a nucleic acid that is critical in formation, growth and development of organisms. Alteration of DNA can cause serious health problems. This alteration mainly is done by a substance known as mutagen which is instrumental in causing mutation of genes in both plants and animals (Kobilinsky, 56-60). Mutagen attacks the DNA of an organism and as a result the genetic code of the organism is altered. Common sources of mutagen include x-rays and ultra-violet rays. Other possible damages that occur as a result of mutagenic attack on DNA include damages of the cells.9Easteal, 1991) As a result the DNA is manipulated and ends up reproducing something that is harmful to the organism. The mutations caused by mutagens usually result to developments of tumors e.g. cancerous tumuor (Calladine, 76-80). In addition mutagens cause birth defects so that a child is born without some vital organs of the body or when some body parts are deformed and cannot function normally. Mutagens usually attack the DNA at the replicating stage. This means that all other replicated DNAs will have this defect and will pass it down to other replicated molecules (James, D. W. & Andrew, B. 89-94). As already mentioned DNA is contained in every cell of an organisms body. This means that evidence of ones identity can be taken from nay part of the body. This is normally important on a number of cases especially when identities of one or more people are in dispute. For instance during paternity test to ascertain whether a particular man is actually the father of an alleged child it is the DNA that helps determine by comparing the composition of the two individuals. DNA thus plays an important role in the growth and development of living organisms and it is important not to expose oneself to sources of mutagen as they can causes sever damage to the body of an organism. Influence of Spain in the New World essays

Influence of Spain in the New World essays Spains political experience was one of the most interesting and extraordinary in the history of modern Europe. It encompassed Portugal, part of Italy, the Netherlands, and large parts of the New World. In the early years of the eighth and ninth centuries the Muslims controlled all of Spain except for some small Christian kingdoms in the north. In the ninth century the Christian states began a re-conquest to push all the Muslims out. By the middle of the thirteenth century Granada was all that remained of the Muslims in Spain. The marriage in 1469 of royal cousins, Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile, eventually brought stability to both kingdoms. Isabella's niece, Juana, had bloodily disputed her succession to the throne in a conflict in which the rival claimants were given assistance by outside powersIsabella by Aragon and Juana by her suitor, the king of Portugal. Both Isabella and Ferdinand understood the importance of unity; together they effected institutional reform in Castile and left Spain one of the best administered countries in Europe. Ferdinand and Isabella resumed the re-conquest; dormant for more than 200 years, and in 1492 they captured Granada, earning for themselves the title of Catholic Kings. When it comes to the liberating of Spain from the Muslims, I believe that for the stability of the country they were justified in pushing the Muslims out. Having said that, I do have some issues with the massacre of the Jews and the threat of death to get them to convert. Some Jews were given only four months and ordered to leave the kingdom or convert to Christianity. Under the edict, Jews were promised royal "protection and security" for the effective three-month window before the deadline. They were permitted to take their belongings with them - except "gold or silver or minted money". There were a number of the New Christians that continued to practice of their fathers in secret, a situati...

A business's Facebook bio is broken into multiple parts including: About Section The first part of your Facebook profile is easy to fill out. It should include your company name, when your organization was founded, a phone number and email for people to contact you and a link to your website. Additional Information There is a section in your Facebook profile that will allow you to give your audience more information about your organization. This part of your bio should include a short "About Us" paragraph, a founding date, and information about the products and services your company offers. How To Use Hashtags On Twitter Correctly Hashtags make it easier for your audience to find your content and since Twitter is the birthplace of hashtags, you'll want to use them correctly. Hashtags fall into three categories: Branded: These are hashtags that are specific to your organization. Industry: These hashtags focus on industry topics and trends. Trending: These hashtags are centered around news related topics and will change quickly. Our advice? Mix up the types of hashtags you use in your posts and stick to using 1–2 hashtags  per tweet. If you're looking to do some hashtag research check out these sources: Hashtags.org Twubs.com Tagdef.com Hashtagify 9. Keep Your Messages Short Twitter may have just extended the length of a tweet to 280 characters but just because you have that space doesn't mean you should use it. According to our research, the best length for a tweet is 103 characters. However, this research was conducted before Twitter expanded its character limit. That means that your posts should be: Concise: Get straight to the point of what you want to say. Clear: Does what you're trying to say make sense? Conversational: Your tweets should encourage your audience to engage with you. Here are some other tips to follow when you're crafting your Twitter messages: Recommended Reading: https://.com/blog/social-media-content-creation/ 10. Don't Automate Your Direct Messages (Ever) My biggest pet peeve is when I follow someone on Twitter, and almost immediately my inbox goes off, and a canned message appears thanking me for following said person. Automated direct messages come across as impersonal, annoying and lazy. You don't want your organization to be any of those things. If you want to reach out to a new Twitter follower, be sincere about it. Try using this template to start: "Hi, [Username]. We noticed that you just started following us on Twitter. We wanted to say thank you. If you need anything, reach out and let us know." 11. Use GIFs Wisely The latest "thing" that companies are creating to get people to interact with them is to write a random relatable quote and slap a GIF on it. While that may have worked the first five times, now every company out there is trying it and when you're already trying to stand out in a crowded feed, following what everyone else is doing will get you nowhere. If your team decides that GIFs will be a part of your Twitter strategy do the following: Decide what types of posts need to have a GIF. What types of GIFs are appropriate for your organization to use. How often your teams can use GIFs per day. When using a GIF is appropriate. 12. Post At The Best Times On Twitter The lifespan of a tweet is about 18 minutes. That means you have an 18-minute window to gather the most views on your content. How do you do that? You want to post at the times when your followers are on. Here is when to tweet in general to increase retweets and click-throughs: Around 5–6 p.m. Noon specifically 3 p.m. Best times to Tweet is around 5–6 p.m., around noon, and at 3 p.m. #marketing13. Use Twitter Lists To Help Curate Content Want to know one of the hacks to keeping up a steady stream of Twitter content? Curate content from your Twitter lists. A Twitter list is a list of users that a person has added into a specific group that will generate a feed of content from only those selected accounts. These are great for when you're following a bunch of thought leaders in your industry and need some awesome content to share in a hurry. If you want to learn how to create a Twitter list check out this video: Once you've created your lists you can scroll through those select feeds and begin to curate content. However, don't just read a headline and add the article or video to your publishing schedule. Follow these three steps before you add any content to your publishing schedule: Read the entire article. A headline does not tell you all the information that is included in the content. Take the time to actually read the content before you share it. Check to make sure that the information referenced is coming from a reliable source. It's easy to skim content and share it but if they information that you share with your followers isn't accurate it can damage your own creditability, so share wisely. Give credit to the content owners. No one likes having their worked swiped from them so be sure to give credit where credit is due. 14. Use Images To Grab People's Attention On Twitter Adding images and graphics to your tweets will get you 18% more clicks. When tweeting a link to your latest blog post, use one of the images from the post to help drive more clicks on the shared link. The image should relate directly to the subject of your blog post, which should help incentivize people to click. Here are some general guidelines for using images on Twitter: Make sure you use images in every  tweet. Use the color scheme that is consistent with your brand. That means that you can pull colors from your logo or other branding materials. If you do decide to choose a filter the first thing that you need to do is determine the aesthetic of your brand. Do you want your photos to have more of a grunge feel or a light and airy feel? Using your branding guide, look for the keywords that describe your brand. Use Keywords In Your Pin Descriptions Pinterest is a heavy keyword site meaning that if you target keywords in your pin descriptions, your pin will surface when that particular keyword is searched. To start, consult your SEO content strategy. If you've centered your content around keywords that your audience is looking for you should already know the keywords to add to your content. Pull the top ten keywords that your audience searches for and start to create content descriptions with those keywords. It's easier to think of your pin descriptions as mini meta-descriptions. In our research, we found that descriptions that were about 215 characters performed best: 31. Be sure to include the name of your target market and your group's category. Monitor and manage your group. You want your group to be a clean atmosphere for people in your industry to come and chat about what you all enjoy. That means keeping a steady stream of content so be prepared to throw in articles, white papers, podcast links and more those first few weeks to keep the discussion going. Beware of people who are sharing their content merely to get a few extra page views. If the content is relevant to the discussion, by all means, leave it in. However, you don't want other group members to get spammed by content so monitor your page daily if you can. 37. At the end of the experiment, the stir bar was returned to the instructor and left the magnetic stirrer on the table. In the Dianisalacetone synthesis, acetone was used as a reagent in the reaction. During the experiment, 3 mL of aqueous NaOH solution was added to 25mL flask then later on 10 mL of acetone was added. The flask was then place on the magnetic stirrers of the bench and then stirred. 1 mL of p-anisalaldehyde was then dissolved in 10 m L of ethanol into the beaker and then swirled to mix the reactants well. The p-anisalaldehyde solution was then added drop wise with the pipette to the acetone and NaOH solution for a given period of time before the next drop was added to ensure that the solution was mixed well. The reaction was stirred well for 20 minutes. At the end of the experiment, the stir bar was returned to the instructor and left the magnetic stirrer on the table. To find the isolation and purification of Anisal or Di-Anisalacetone, the reaction mixture was diluted in the Erlenmeyer flask 10mL of tap water. After submitting to the supervisor, the diluted mixture was then transferred to the separatory funnel found at the HOODS. After draining the yellow organic layer, the solution was later dried with the anhydrous sodium sulfate and then filtered into the round bottom flask. The solvent was later removed with the help of the rotary evaporator and water bath found at room temperature. The

The Role Of Puck in A Midsummer Nights Dream :: Midsummer Nights Dream

The Role Of Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The role and character of Puck, or Robin Goodfellow, in A Midsummer Night's Dream, is not only entertaining but quite useful.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   William Shakespeare seems to have created the character of Puck from his own childhood.   In Shakespeare's   time it was believed that fairies and little people did exist.   Whenever something went wrong around the farmyard or house or village, incidents such as buckets of milk ‘accidentally' spilling over, or tools suddenly disappearing, or doors opening for no reason,   it was blamed on ‘ those damn little people!'.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The idea of Puck's character is a lovely one.   One can't help but be attracted to him and his innocent, little pranks.  Ã‚   He is also known by the name Robin Goodfellow.   The audience can only see this ‘Robin Goodfellow' side of Puck when he is trying to fix something he disrupted, hence the name Goodfellow.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   When compared to Oberon, King of the Fairies and Titania, Queen of the Fairies and the remaining fairies of the play, Puck does not seem to fit in as well.   While Oberon and Titania belong to the forest and the world of dainty fairies, a small village setting seems more appropriate for Puck.   He is the type of fairy that likes to be around mortals and cause them trouble, as opposed to other fairies.   This is why Puck's   little job with a love potion and a young couple is perfect for him and he perfect for the job.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Puck is a likable character who tends to create mischief around himself. Everything is a game to crafty little Puck.  Ã‚   Yet once he realizes that he has caused a problem he will make sure to the best of his ability and power that it is rectified.   As in the scene with Hermia and Lysander, and Helena and Demetrius.   When Puck mistook Lysander for Demetrius (Shakespeare conveniently had the characters look alike or ‘only slightly individualized') and dropped the love-juice into Lysander's eyes and then (with help from Oberon) realized what he had done he knew he had to fix it.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Shakespeare conveniently created ‘Puck' to add some probability to the play.   Since the typical audience believed in fairies and little people, Puck could be convincing in his role.   It is possibly,   even today, more plausible to

Explication of “The Storm” by Kate Chopin

English 2 The Storm Response Journal Kate Chopin’s â€Å"the Storm†, is a dark story about a quick love affair between former friends while caught up in a storm, while their significant others were stranded elsewhere. The story explores Calixta's dueling relationship with her husband and her lover, Alcee. Chopin uses the storm as a metaphor to portray Calixta's sexual feelings and struggles in regards to her affair. The ongoing mention of the color white symbolizes Calixta’s internal struggle with her affair with Alcee. The white bed, couch, blouse, and skin and breasts of Calixta all have this seeming innocence about them; but then her passion is described as a white flame, which contradicts the previously established notion that white is pure. Her passion is clearly not innocent, therefore taking the color white and mixing it with the opposing image of fire. The affair between Calixta and Alcee truly begins after lightening destroys the chinaberry tree outside h er house.Chinaberries were, at this time, used as the beads on rosaries, so the destruction of the tree symbolizes the complete transition from her pure Catholic upbringing to her present state of adultery. As the storm clears, so does their conscience and they both happily continue on with their lives, with their own respective families. During the storm, Calixta’s husband, Bobinot, and son were stranded in a local store, where Bobinot bought Calixta a shrimp snack, which is one of her favorites. This hints at the concrete relationship between Calixta and Bobinot, as opposed to the fleeting moment between Calixta and Alcee. This can also show Bobinots commitment to the marriage, as opposed to Calixta’s ephemeral affair with Alcee. Alcee write a letter to his wife telling her she does not need to come home from where she is, and to take her time, while Bobinot is always thinking of his wife, evident by the purchase of her favorite snack. Chopin ends the story with the l ine â€Å"So the storm passed and everyone was happy†, which is a trite way to send such a serious and passionate story.

Face Of Poverty - 1641 Words

The text Changing the Face of Poverty by Diana George and the text Homeless on Campus by Eleanor J. Bader deals with the main idea of poverty in its different forms across America. The authors want to prove that people are turning a blind eye towards poverty because many people do not see it in their everyday lives. If the rising destitution in America would be acknowledged, programs such as Habitat for Humanity and the LeTendre Education fund could be more efficient in tending to the needs of those in poverty. The authors explore how homelessness/poverty is inaccurately portrayed by organizations or people, inhumane and abusive conditions in poverty infused homes, and how the two female authors use similar appeals throughout their†¦show more content†¦Both of these texts provide stellar examples of how the media misportrays homelessness and poverty. In the first text, Changing the Face of Poverty, George includes a visual ad from Childrens Incorporated that shows a little g irl who looks deprived of the basic needs. Childrens Inc used this picture to get the point across that poverty exists even though you may not see it in your day to day lives, however, poverty does not always look like this. By using stereotypical pictures like this, it is making people feel like this is the only way that poverty exists. In reality, poverty exists in many forms and sometimes cannot be seen. This shows that poverty needs to be paid more attention to so we are not only helping children who fit the stereotypical image provided by Childrens Inc. George also talks about the publicity videos put out by Habitat for Humanity. Like the picture ad from Childrens Inc, these publicity videos display the cliche version of poverty in America. George states, â€Å"The real trouble with Habitat’s representation, then, is twofold: it tells us that the signs of poverty are visible and easily recognized.† Since poverty, is only recognized in certain ways, only a handful of people in need are receiving help. In the second text, Homeless on Campus, Bader tells the stories of a few college students who struggle to attend school while looking for a warm place to sleep that night.
